Why would a 1991 Lincoln Town Car's AC shut off after the car has run awhile even on the highway?

If your Towncar has automatic climate control it will shut off when the set temperature is achieved. try turning down the Temp. If this does not work, you may have to replace the sensor. Check the blower motor power lead for an intermittent connectivity due to having been overheated. This can be caused by blower motor drawing too many amps (my case, replace the motor) or a bad spade terminal on the power lead (repair the lead). This condition can be verified by the "wiggle test" next time it occurs.
