The noise probably has something to do with the problem and noises can't be correctly diagnoised unless heard. Take it to the shop.
AnswerLate model Chevrolets were designed with the most horrible battery terminals I have ever seen! It's just a guess but I've seen it on several other Chevys of that era (Tahoes, etc). The terminals appear to be tight but they make poor connection. I'm not a professional mechanic but on that vehicle that would be the first place i'd look.Day Light Running Lights.
lights are fused in fuse block under driverside but gauges are cables
you have a shorting wire someplace
Shift into neutral or park.
daytime running lights for chevys are automatic. you cant turn them off. all you can do is control the high and low beams.
Should be in the fuse box under the hood on the drivers inner fenderwell.
If they are stock then there electric.
check your fusible link, its connected to your positive battery cable,it could be burnt or swollen.
Check the fuses.
Check the fuse for the brake lights. It should be marked stop/haz on the fuse box cover.
If there is no brake lights on a 1998 Mazda pickup, check the fuse. If the fuse has blown, the lights will not work.
Evidentally the lights were wired up wrong. You will have to take ti to someone and have it streightened out. Are you sure they don't work? They only come on when the engine is running and the vehcile is in gear. If you just start the truck up and look for the lights, they will not be on. It has to be in gear.
