Check the EGR valve. An EGR valve that is open at idle will cause a car to stall. An EGR should be closed at idle and open when you are driving around.
AnswerAlso check the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) solenoid. It's part of the tranmission. The TCC locks the car into gear at higher speeds, as if it were a manual transmission, to eliminate slippage and save gasoline. If it stays locked up when you come to a stop, the car bucks and stalls (just like if you forgot to step on the clutch in a stickshift car).
I had this happen on my 4.0 96 after I replaced my serpentine belt. Upon re-assembly, I had neglected to tighten one of the air intake duct's hose clamps. Since securing the hose clamp, it's running great again.
engine is about to stall
Some things that can cause a car to stall while driving it include a bad fuel pump, running out of gas, and low fuel pressure. A clogged catalytic converter can also cause this to happen.
If you have the 2.3 engine, one possibility is sludge in the Throttle Body.
If the check engine light has come on, have the codes read. That would be a good place to start.
If the check engine light is on...might be a dirty EGR valve.
Battery is dead, because of a bad alternator.
Sounds like your not getting enough fuel. Try a new pump.
could be transmission

The most likely cause of a 1992 Ford Aerostar stalling while idling is bad spark plugs. The plugs should be changed and the timing checked to resolve the problem.
An engine usually has a higher idle speed when the ac is running. If the high speed idle does not operate then the ac will cause the engine to stall.
