It's a token of their appreciation. They want the guy to know that they value them, in a friendly way, or maybe more. They may want to comfort the person, if it's during a stressful, or traumatic time, or maybe they just want them to know that they're there and that they care for the guy.

∙ 16y agoIf you are not uncomfortable with him, and it is in a public place or at least there are other people around, a simple hug should be OK. If you are unsure, or uneasy about him, or if this is more than just a hug - especially if no others are around - keep away.
