Why would a legally divorced couple of 8 years still be living together as husband and wife?

Sometimes it due to the fact that they are in a business venture together. Other times it could be for the childrens sake. We have a couple of friends where the husband lives downstairs and the wife lives upstairs. Odd, but it seems to work for the children's sake. Then there could be the possibility that the wife feels afraid and insecure living alone in the house (in this day and age I don't blame her if that's the case.) They could also just be friends and enjoy each others company and each of them may be dating other people and have an understanding between them. Marcy I think a lot of couples feel a lot of pressure when they get married, or they feel like the other person is now "stuck" with them so they can never be sure that s/he still loves them. It is possible this couple was happier when they weren't married yet and decided that being married just wasn't for them.
