Evidence is gathered or collected that refutes the theory. The theory must be discarded, or modified to fit the evidence.

Examples of discarded theories: Phlogiston, Ether, The Steady State Theory.

Newton's theory of gravity has not been discarded, simply because it remains useful, even though it has been replaced by Einstein's Theory of General Relativity. GR could be considered an extension of Newtonian physics. With Darwin's Theory of Evolution, the original theory has not changed so much as it has been extended by new findings. We understand the structure of DNA much better now, and the role of genes. DNA was unknown during Darwin's time. Molecular Biology, genetics, and cladistics simply build upon the underlying theory of evolution.

New information that would change that facts can change a theory. Remember that a theory is not a scientific law which can not be changed. For a long time people theorized that there were four elements: fire, air, water and earth. That has changed now to want we know to be 118.

science changes b/c people experiment and find out new discoveries or b/c with new technology we are able to either prove our old theories wrong or come out with new theories.

Because new things are discovered which make the old theory obsolete. In addition experiments testing the theory can show it to be wrong.

What might cause scientists to change scientific theory?

Because technology might change in the future.

Under what conditions can a scientific model or theory change?

A scientific model can change if new evidence is found. If the new evidence that has been found contradicts the model or theory then a scientific model or theory can change.

How can you change a theory into scientific knowledge?

no

How is Scientific law and scientific theory diffrent?

A scientific law is the description of a recurring event that occurs in nature. A scientific theory is an explanation of the law. The law does not change, but the theory may change when new data indicate that it needs to.

Why might a theory or scientific law change after it has reached general acceptence?

Continuing research can turn up new or conflicting information regarding a theory or scientific law. It will then be changed even after general acceptance.

Why might scientists change a scientific theory?

If a new theory better fits the data overall or simply because new and significant data disagrees or the method which brought about the original theory is invalid.

Why might a scientist reject a scientific theory?

there might not be enough proof

A scientific theory can change if?

It can change if it is proven wrong, or if a new theory is proven more likely to be true.

Can you change a scientific theory?

yes you can, in theory. But it is very difficult to change an established 'ruling paradigm' (however incorrect).

When can scientific theory be change?

whenever an experiment fails to confirm the theory it is no longer a theory ... it becomes a hypothesis

Why do scientific ideas change?

Scientific information constantly changes as new information is discovered or as previous hypotheses are retested. New information can lead to changes in scientific theories. When new facts are revealed, a current scientific theory might be revised to include the new facts, or it might be disproved and rejected.

What might cause scientist to change a scientific theory?

Theories are ideas, educatied ideas, but still only ideas. A scientist may change a scientific theory if new facts or information are found, if other scientists' review find errors, if attempts to apply the theory are unsuccessful, or if they see that the calculations are wrong when they double check them, and so then they would retest and rewrite their theory to correct the errors.Science is testing a belief with the means to disprove it and being unable to do so.Scientific Fact = something that has yet to be disproved.
