so attempted suicide is not a crime.
Added: Aside from the sheer humanity of wanting to save a life, law enforcement officers in most(all?) states are armed with the power of emergency involuntary mental health commitment. It is known by various names in various jurisdictions but the bottom line of all of them is that law enforcement has the emergency power to involuntarily commit a person to a hospital for mental evaluation if they are deemed to be a danger to themselves or others.
