It sounds like the brake light switch might be bad, or sticking. ANOTHER SIMPLE SOLUTION TYO CHECK FIRST: Before you go getting the brake switch replaced you should check for a simple and inexpensive solution. This simple and inexpensive solution is probably the cause and very common on these cars. There are two small brake pedal stoppers that snap into the brake pedal. If they are not in place, the switch cannot be depressed and the lights stay on. Very easy to fix. Buy the parts and snap them into the two small holes. Pick up or order these parts from your Nissan dealer. 2 of 46584-S0100 = $1.76 each .

First, I would check the switch located on or about your brake pedal. It could be stuck on. It's usually located a few inches above the brake pedal (under the glove box). Make sure it is pressed (pressing it disengages the brake light, in my experience).

Sometimes there is a plastic piece that belongs there and breaks off. You can tape a penny (or something else) where the missing piece belongs until you find a more permanent fix.

If this doesn't solve your problem, you can prevent your battery from running down by disconnecting it. Remove the cable connected to the negative side of the battery. Try to keep the disconnected cable from touching anything metal, and cover it with an old rag or sock if you can. Make sure you do not touch the negative cable to the positive side of the battery or positive wire, or anything else metallic touching the positive side of the battery or positive wire. Doing so can cause serious injury or worse.

try cleaning the switch to remove any oil or water on it ..if this is not the problem it could be the actuator for the switch needs adjusting... failing these it could be the switch itself needs changing.

Try checking the fuse for the brake lights. If all of your brake lights went out at the same time, this is most likely the problem.

How do you replace the brake light bulb on driver side in the Nissan Sentra 2009?

2009 Nissan Sentra brake light bulb replacement: Purchase the correct replacement bulb(s) first, before disassembling the vehicle. See sources and related links below for replacement bulb information. Then consult your owner's manual for the replacement procedure. As simple as it sounds, the owner's manual is the best place to start for bulb replacement instructions and illustrations. You may want to consider replacing both left and right at the same time in order to keep brightness and color equal (optional).

What is the name of the small rubber piece that is located under the brake pedal that turns off the tail lights?

The part of the car that turns on the brake lights when you apply pressure to the brake pedal is called the brake switch. Releasing pressure from the pedal causes the brake switch to break its electrical contact, turning off the lights.

Brake lights do not work on 2005 Nissan sentra?

Check the brake switch under your pedal (which needs to be pushed when the brake pedal is depressed). This is what the problem was on my friends Sentra. As long as you have checked the lights and fuses, this should do it.
