When mine quit working, it was a sensor(s) in the steering wheel itself that had gone out. It started out by not working on one side of the sterring wheel, but would on the other....and the locations would change around until it completely went out in about a week. Being my car was still under warranty when it happened, the dealership replaced the sensors for free. They had to tear open the sterring wheel to do it.
