The most common reason for this condition is a faulty ignition switch. It loses contact momentarily while cranking, causing a voltage loss to the security system and starts the 10 minute security timer in the computer. It will not start until the timer runs out. Usually the key has to be left on after a start attempt for the ten minutes. Some cars require 30 minutes.
