Why would the tachometer peg all the way over while driving in a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder?

There is something wrong with the tach. Take it to the shop. <--- wow, that is insightful!!

AnswerMore likely...if it shakes from side to side while driving I would strongly suspect a frozen upper or lower link in the rear suspension. Alignment issues will cause vibration but not side to side shaking.

This is a well-known problem with this generation Pathfinders... the rear upper and lower control arm bushings are worn. Have them replaced and the sway should disappear.

If you lost power while driving it could be the alternator. Its not charging your batter anymore

You need to get your control arms/bushings replaced. It sways at speeds on or above 60mph. I just had it done to my 97 pathfinder. It is a problem that they have. boo :(

I had a 1990 nissan maxima that use to do that and the problem was my rack and pinion bushings were bad

Your throttle valve switch (position sensor) is bad and need to be replaced.....this is located on the side of the throttle chamber. You can get this from Advance Auto for $60 and is easy to replace...

i just had that problem (crank angle sensor) under the distributor cap...just got one for about $180 but never stalled while driving again ...saves the headache get one!!!

Put transmission into neutral while running, pull transfer case lever back on notch (beside shifter,) this will engage 4 Hi.

I have a 2003 Altima that while traveling under 35 mph might shut down. Nissan says it is the crank shaft angle sensor thingy. Nissan will repair for $215.00 or your local mech. will do it for $191.00...KNOWN problem but no recall!

replace the ignition coil. There is a resistor inside the coil that fails over time and causes 2 problems. 1 the transmission may fail to properly lock the torque converter and 2 will cause the tachometer needle to fluctuate wildly, esp when it is hot outside.
