Why would you have to press very hard on the brake 4 or 5 times before it allows you to shift out of Park pm a 1998 Ford Expedition?

Hey OC There is a switch on the brake pedal that controls a solonoid on htheshift lever. Either the switch or solonoid isn't working. I would imagine it is the solonoid as drinks get spilled on the console and gum up the works. Take it apart and clean it. GoodluckJoe
