You WOULD expect to find metamorphic rocks in the recesses (deep layers) of the Earth's crust. But not in the mantle or core.

Metamorphic means changed - and rocks - either sedimentary or igneous - get changed by the heat and pressures found in the deep crust.

Why would you not expect to find obsidian deep in the recesses of the earth?

Obsidian is another name for "volcanic glass". For a glass to form the molten lava must be cooled very, very quickly. The deep recesses of the Earth are not cold, they are warm and this means that molten lave intruded into the deep recesses of the Earth will not cool quickly and thus Obsidian can never form in these conditions. Obsidian can only form at the surface. However, there is one other way for a glass to be produced in Geology and that is by the heating generated by friction during a fault movement. This type of glass is called a "pseudotachylyte". These ARE generated in the deep recesses of the Earth.

Why would you expect a metamorphic rock to form at a temperature lower then the melting point of rock?

If the rock melts the resulting rock type would be igneous rather than metamorphic.

What would be a correct statement regarding metamorphic rock formation?

When metamorphic rock changes to magma the magma rises and cools to become?

A metamorphic rock is formed by the elements, minor heat, and compression. When the metamorphic rock is melted by magma, this would indicate that the metamorphic rock is under the surface of the earth. If it rises and cools again you will have an extrusive igneous rock. In a lot of cases, this is metamorphic rock on the surface under the influence of lava. This would change the composition and it would not longer be metamorphic, but rather igneous.

How would you spell recess in plural?

The plural is "recesses".

What do you call a metamorphic rock that melts beneath the Earth's surface?

At the point of total melt, it would be called magma. Metamorphic rock that exhibits partial melting is called migmatite.
