Why would your car still be whining after the power steering pump is replaced?

One source of whining could be many things but the first that comes to my mind is the Alternator. The CV joints could possibly make this noise too but I would personally consult a mechanic about this.
any motor attached to the engine could be a cause but I would take it to a mechanic: alternator, compressor, water pump, etc.

Check the rack and pinion might be defective I had that problem when I had a hose crack I replaced the pump and still so I changed the rack and it went a way also check the fluid sending swicth

Power steering pump replaced why is it still whining?
I am no expert, but how many miles are on the vehicle? I have found on the internet that there is a bulletin out for 2001 Dodges concerning power steering. If your p/s unit has a whining noise it may be caused by a partially clogged reservoir. In addition, since 2001, Dodge recommends automatic transmission fluid instead of p/s fluid. I confirmed this with 2 Dodge dealerships and with the owner's manual. I had my car's fluid changed and the garage put in p/s fluid, in hopes that the groaning noise would disappear. it didn't and that is when I discovered on-line that ATF should be used instead and that replacing both the fluid and reservoir should solve the problem. On-line a person replaced the pump and then the rack. No change. He replaced the reservoir and the noise went away. Rob

it may be your steering assist pump: check the liquid level and if it is low, add until it is close to 'MAX'.After having added the power steering liquid, turn your steering wheel all the way to the left,hold it there(you should still hear the whine), then turn it all the way to the right,hold it there and repeat until you won't hear it anymore(2 or three times). PS: the power steering reservoir is not the one near the steering pump,that is the brake liquid reservoir; power steering reservoir is closer to the front of the car and has a bigger cap that says...power steering on it

you can still drive the car but its not recommended, its pretty hard on the power steering pump
