Metric system is based off powers of ten. Converting to different measurements is easier than the English system. The English System conversions between different units of measurement such as pounds to ounces is not easy. (1 pound=16 ounces)
Metric system 1 liter = 100 centiliters Easy to remember, easy to convert betweeen.
You have three basic areas of measurement...Length (meters), weight (grams), volumn (liters) for meteric system.
Length:
Metric...1 meter = 100 centimeters = 1000 millimeters = 0.001 kilometers
English...1 foot = 12 inches = 1/3 yards; 1 yard = 3 feet = 36 inches; 1 mile = 5280 feet
In metric system it uses prefixes to help describe the units of measurement.
Meter = Length
Liter = Volumn (Liquids/gases)
Grams = Weight
milli = 1/1000
centi = 1/100
deci = 1/10
Kilo = 1000
Hecto = 100
Deca = 10
Easy stuff other than remembering what each prefix means. :-)
Because the metric system is the "System Internationale", and it is far more used in the world than Customary units. If you are from the U.S.or U.K., the common unit of measurement on highways and roads is miles; and for temperature, Fahrenheit. Visit Canada or any other country and the units will probably be kilometers and Celsius or centigrade.
Customary units are only used in the U.S. and the U.K.
To rationalise and standardise the metric system, which has gone through many changes since its introduction.
Conversions between units and prefixes is much easier than with the English system, making the metric system more suitable for scientific use.
This is because it is accepted world wide.
Examples:
SI unit of heat = Joules (J)
SI unit of weight = Newtons (N)
The metric system and standard, or English, system are two sets of standards that are used for quantifying weights and measures.
Schools and industry use metric but many people cling to Imperial measures. We still buy beer in pints and drive for miles to a good pub
both imperial and metric system is used but scientist use the metric system the most.the metric system is also called the international system also known as the SI unit.
In case I read the question wrong, I am assuming you asked Where is the metric system commonly used instead of English units. The answer is everywhere EXCEPT America. The metric system is an international measurement system based on 10. France was first to adopt it in 1799 and it is now the basic measurement system used in almost every country in the world. The United States has yet to adopt it which is why American products, highway speeds ....virtually everything is still in standard English measurement. It is very very slowly coming into use commonly in America. It is incredibly easy to use, but in school you are taught conversion, which is hard, and absolutely unneccessary. This turned many people off to it.
Apparently it's not as universal as you think.
Because America doesn't know what we are doing when it comes to academics.
Metric.
The metric system (SI, to be precise) is used everywhere in the scientific community, and most of the units are used in practice in most countries of the world.
In the SI, that is the kilogram. (Older "metric systems" used the gram instead.)
An inch is such a measure.

Only three countries still cling to the "English" system, whereas the whole world uses metric. The SI units were established in 1960 as part of a review of the metric system used at the time; it uses metric units because it is the current version of the metric system.

It is meter,liter,gram

Gallons of gasoline will be used to measure the English system. Liters in the metric system.
