It works, I use it all the time! type in the national dex number on the calculator app and press L. It won't work again if u catch, or in water but anywhere else works. If you leave the route it will also kill the code, so be sure to save and restart ur game every once in a while. If u battle it or run away, u can still find more or a different pokemon, but not if u catch one.
