yes
He played Scott Calvin (same initials as Santa Claus).
Poor Scott is a successful salesman for a toy company. On Christmas Eve, his son awakens him to check on a noise coming from the roof of his house. When he goes out to investigate he sees Santa an his reindeer perched on his roof. When he yells at Santa, he startles him and he slides off the roof and lands in the snow in front of Scott. When Scott searches his suit for ID he finds a card that says "If anything happens to me, put on the suit...". Santa then disappears, leaving behind just the suit. Scott's son convinces him to put on the suite --- and Scott reluctantly (initially anyway) becomes the new Santa.

Yes, they are good friends.

Santa Claus is a fictional character based upon the real life St. Nicholas, a Christian Greek who used his entire inheritance to help the needy, the sick and the suffering. St. Nicholas died on December 6th, 343CE (December 19th in the modern calendar, known as St. Nicholas Day).Being a fictional character based upon a dead Bishop, an official fan e-mail address for Santa Claus is not available. However, there are many unofficial e-mail and postal mailing addresses where Santa mail may be sent.Traditionally, Santa Claus is said to live at the north pole (where there are obviously no mail boxes). However, in Scotland, we get our kids to write letters to Santa and then have them throw them on an open fire, "so Santa can read them when he comes down the lum" (a lum being the chimney). E-mailing Santa doesn't quite have the same charm. For some example websites, see Sources and related links, below.

Santa needed to learn a lot of things, but he learned them through doing them and life experience and studying on his own. He didn't go to a training program. It was hard though, and Santa encourages children to stay in school and learn all they can.
