A 2000 XLT V6 engine cannot fit on a 2003 XLS V6.
Yes. The 2000 explorer xlt v6 will fit in a 2002 explorer xlt v6.
The v6 engine type as well as the transmission will determine if it will fit or not. Look over several v6 engines to see which will fit under the hood with the least modifications.
The short answer is yes, however there are many variables to this question. What engine, and what fuel induction system come to mind right away. Your best bet for fit would be be a 2.8, or 3.4. The 2.8 would be the most straight forward if you went with a carbed unit. Good luck.
