Will a bad fuel cap cause your car to run rough or die?
A bad fuel cap can make your check engine light go on. It shouldn't cause your car to run rough or die.
What would cause unburned fuel in exhaust after plug wires distributor cap and rotor have been replaced?
A corroded distributor cap and rotor will cause a vehicle to be difficult if not impossible to start and may cause the motor to run rough. If a manual transmission is jerky the clutch slave cylinder or clutch may need replacing ( clutch slipping ). It would also do to check the clutch lines for leaking fluid.
You lost the fuel cap and replaced it on a 2005 TrailBlazer LS the fuel gauge jumps all over showing full then low fuel. How do you reset the computer?
answer: Very little fuel... ------------------------- This is only one answer to your question that could cause this problem. There are many things that could cause an engine to turn over but not start. Lean fuel air mixture / lack of vacuum pressure / bad cap & rotor and so on. there are many things.
Some things that cause a car to hard start are: bad ignition coil, distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel pump relay, fuel pump, fuel regulator, battery, bad electrical connections on battery, dirty battery, dirty carb, clogged fuel filter, dirty IAC, and the list goes on.....
There are many things that can cause misfires. Bad plugs or plug wires, a worn out distributor cap, burned or worn valves, low compression, plugged or worn fuel injectors, faulty fuel injector harness wiring, low fuel pressure, and so on. It will require diagnosis by someone with the knowledge and equipment to determine the actual cause.
