All kidding aside, if you own a cat, it means the cat got. I have -- no HAD -- 3 Bettas, 2 males and 1 female, each in their own tank. I came home one day to 2 males and no female. Now unless this fishes name was Norval and got a visit from The Cat in the Hat, I doubt my girl grew legs and ran out the door! To this day I have never found her. And, I must say that the cat was in an exceptionally good mood the rest of that day!
Fish owners who have fish in "bowls" need to make sure that the container is secure where they sit. Even a small amount of silicone on the bottom or the "gum like" substance they use for earthquakes so your collectibles don't fall off shelves works quite well.
Also, some kind of screen or mesh covering that the cat can't remove is also a good idea. Sometimes we need to get a little creative with our fish security to maintain that they will be safe when we are home and when we are not.
Sorry about your loss. Yes, they re fish, but are are a part of the family!

∙ 15y agoNo. She either jumped out and is on the floor somewhere, or possibly stuck in the tank somewhere, but the male did not eat her.
