The egg's shell is made up of calcium carbonate and is "eaten" up by the acidic vinegar, leaving behind only the inner membrane and giving them a rubbery feel. It dissolves the shell completely.

If you leave it outside of a liquid for too long, gravity will collapse it.

Yes. If done for an extended period it is called pickling. It will be like rubber and you can even kind of bounce the thing. Nasty to eat though. Not suggested unless you are really feeling froggy.

When you soak in egg in vinegar what will happen is that the egg will become very squishy and rubbery. If you leave the egg in vinegar for about 3-7 days then the egg will be able to bounce! That's right it will bounce! One time I did this experiment for my science fair project and the highest my egg bounced was 7in. It is really cool to see the egg bounce.

Soaking an egg in vinegar can be a science experiment taught in some schools. You should NEVER eat any eggs or any food that was used in an experiment.

The eggshell will soften. I am not sure if overnight is long enough. You could do an experiment and try it, yourself.
