The Monte from 95 an up is designed to hold a 60 degree V6 (meaning the angle or V the piston cylinders make is 60 degrees. All Chevy V8's are 90 degrees. The 4.3 V6 is also 90 degrees because it is based on the Chevy small-block V8. Therefor, even upgrading to a 4.3 V6 is impossible to do easily. Major modifications would have to be made to the engine compartment, including the subframe. If you wanted to gut the engine compartment of all electronics and basically create an older Monte within the newer body, it could be done but I hope you have a welder and lots of knowledge, money and spare time.
