Will birds eat fire ants?
I have seen Mocking Birds eat fire ants.
Fire ants will eat other ants. Army ants will also eat other ants and actually seem to specialize in raiding the broods of other ant colonies. In fact fire ants will eat almost any kind of insect they catch. Ants (Formicidae) are a very broad genus. Asking what do ants eat is like asking what do people eat. It depends on which ants.
Fire ants impacted native species because of their stings. Many times, by the time one feels the sting of one fire ant, many more are about to bite too. The bites make the skin feel as if it were on fire. They are very aggressive and feed on lizards, birds and small mammals amongst many other species. Sometimes they eat seeds, causing ravaging of crops.
Fire ants like to eat anything from fresh food to rotten food and from wood to electrical cable. Fire ants tend to commit mass suicide when near human settlements because of this. When one ant finds a nice 'juicy' electrical cable and chews through it, it shorts out the circuit and 'frys' itself.
