You can, but it isn't smart. There are a lot of physical problems that come from smoking weed. The idea that it is harmless is not true. Here are some facts. THC the active ingredient in marijuana travels through the brain and body. Within a short time after inhaling the heart begins to beat rapidly, sometimes 50 beats per minuter more than it had before. One study shows that a person's risk of heart attack within the first hour following smoking is four times greater than normal. Bronchial passages enlarge and blood vessels in the eyes expand. The THC affects the part of the brain that regulates coordination, balance, posture, and reaction time. This could be the reason that 11% of all people fatally injured test positive for THC. The smoke has 70% more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke and we know how unhealthy tobacco is. Infrequent use can cause a cough, acute chest illness, lung infections, and airway obstruction. The risk of cancer of the head, neck, lungs is doubled. The more one smokes the more the risk. The ability to remember is diminished so long term use impairs memory, increases the risk of emphysema and other lung conditions. Add the physical effects of the pill and the two together can be deadly.

No there has been no proven fact that weed decreases the effectiveness of Birth Control.
its recommended that you don't smoke at ALL when taking birth control because it can increase the risks listed on the package. if you smoke (anything) than it can decrease the effectiveness of any birth control pill and there's an increased chance that you will get pregnant.

and I'm a 16 year old high school student who has been smoking weed for about 3 in a half years and i don't recommend smoking while taking any medication. but if you want to smoke weed but don't want the risk of getting pregnant, than use a condom and always have plan B on hand.

Yes it can.. On most birth control labels it does say to ask a doctor before use of alcohol, drugs, and any type of prescription drug.
Pot is not a regulated substance because it is illegal. Therefore, there have been very few studies on its drug interactions. Because it does affect the parts of your brain responsible for hormonal regulation, many people believe that this side-effect tampers with your birth control. However, this is not the case. I found the following site much more eloquent and reliable a source than myself:
