Yes, the valves will most likely be damaged if the timing belt breaks. There is usually further damage associated with the timing belt breaking while the engine is in operation. Some additional damages could be, connecting rods, crankshaft, lifters, and cam damage.
YES...And I mean BAD BEND
It is an interference engine, but it doesn't always bend valves.
By interference, if you are referring to the valves. The 1.8 liter is a non interference engine. If the timing belt brakes, then the valves do not interfere with the piston. They do not try and occupy the same space. The 1.9 liter engine is an interference engine. If the timing belt breaks then the valves will occupy the same space as the piston and they will hit each other.
The failure of the 2004 Kia 2.4 liter timing belt can cause severe damage to the piston heads and the valves. The timing belt failure can ruin the engine.
As I understand it, a freewheeling engine, such as the 2.3 liter Ford is an overhead cam engine that will not crash the valves if the timing belt breaks. A 350 Chevy uses a timing chain since the cam is in the block. If the timing chain breaks on that, you're out of luck.
No , the 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engine in a 1987 Toyota MR2 is not an interference engine
No , the 1.8 liter 4 cylinder in a 1999 Mazda Protege is not an interference engine
no need to set the timing for it automatically set its valve.only the cdi needs timing for they controls the electricity to burn your fuel....
If the timing chain broke on the quad 4 you don't need to worry about a chain you need a new head when the timing chain breaks on them it lets the valves come down and hit the top of the pistons which binds the valves or at least that what i have seen.
The 4-cylinder 2.0 liter engine is a non-interference engine, in that the pistons have "cutouts" in the tops to prevent the valves hitting them in case the timing belt breaks. The 2.5 liter V6 does not require this, since it uses a timing chain, rather than a belt.
( Yes ) according to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etcetera ) the 2.0 liter four cylinder engine in a 1998 Ford Contour IS NOT an interference engine
Yes they can and it will almost certainly happen if your timing chain breaks which is a common problem in those it a pain in the butt. (experience!) hope this helps ya.
