Unfortunately yes. The Saturn motor is considered an Interference motor. When the chain breaks the neutral landing position of the camshafts will allow valves to be open, as the engine slows down from its rotating mass it will bend these open valves.
Normally no.
The Simple answer is yes the piston its the valves and possibly damage the pistons
Bent valvesBent valves
If the valves bent, then yes.
yes
One of the most common reasons for bent valves is a broken timing chain or belt.
The 22R/RE engine family are interference engines, which means that the pistons WILL hit the valves if the timing chain breaks. At least 2 valves WILL be bent, maybe more if the engine was under power when the chain broke. Some people have claimed to had broken chains without bent valves, but the question you have to ask yourself is if you want to tear down most of the engine TWICE to find out. The odds of the chain breaking at just the right spot and the valves sitting just right to not get hit is about 1 in 64.
Replace the timing belt and pray that you dont have bent valves.
The valves can be bent when the timing belt breaks.
There is NO Timing belt...- has one primary and two secondary chains. If chain broke possible to bent one or more intake valves, if slips- all intake valves need to be replaced... Good luck. G.
If the timing belt breaks, the valves get bent immediately.
The main cause for bent valves is a failure in the timing chain or belt. When the valves and pistons are not exactly in sync, they can collide.
