No it will not. You must have an OBDII engine scanner to read the codes.
Some parts stores will read them free of charge. Advance auto parts is 1 that will.
Reset the exhaust emission warning light by turning the ignition on and off 40 times. Light codes can be read by the old brake/accelerator press and turn the ignition on.

hi there you can reset the oil light by turning the key on and engine off, and fully press the gas pedal 3 times in 5 seconds then start the truck and the oil light should flash, if it dont work try it all over again or look in your owners manual under reset oil light. instead of turning on ignition and pressing gas pedal three times try turning on ignition and pressing the brake pedal three times it worked on my 2001 silverado !
That code will flash whenever the diagnostic terminal is grounded with the ignition turned on and engine is not running. If there is additional trouble codes stored in the ECM they will appear after code 12 has flashed 3 times. If you have no other codes that flash. Then code 12 means system is okay and no codes presant.
Bring to a shop that has an ABS scanner to see if there is a problem - if not have codes cleared Often rebooting the computer by turning the ignition off then on several times will clear "glitches". Sometimes mine has had to cycle as meny as 20 times to clear a "false" signal.
Turn the ignition key off and on three times. You will see the check engine light go off and on. Count the times the light goes off and on. Those are the codes.
low fuel presure. try priming it by turning ignition on and off several times.
turn your ignition to the on position then off. do this for a total of three times, on the third time leave ignition in on position and look at your odometer. your computer will show up to tell you why your check engine light is on.... then search and find out what the codes are.
The 1997 Dakota was the last year that you could pull codes by switching the ignition key on and off. Here's How: Within 5 seconds, turn the ignition key ON - OFF - ON - OFF - ON The trouble light will come on for two seconds then flash a number of times then pauses then flashes a number of times then pauses. when it flashes 55 it mean there are no more codes stored in memory. Multiple codes are separated by a 4 second pause.
With ignition on, engine off, press the gas pedal down all the way 3 times within the first 5 seconds after turning the ignition on.
First, replace the battery. Then, cycle the ignition between on and off three times. Turn the ignition key into the on position, then the off position, three times. The computer will recognize the key, reboot the computer, and release your key.
I have a 2000 Olds Silohuette. I just reset the "Change Oil" light by turning the ignition to on(DO NOT START THE VEHICLE), pushing the accelerator down to the floor 6 times, turning the ignition off, and then starting the van. The light did not come on. Hopefully this will help.
