William Henry Harrison started his political career as the delegate from the North West Territory from 1799 March 4 to 1800 May 14, 1 year 2 months and 10 days. He then became the first governor of Indiana for nearly 12 years, from nearly 1801 January 1 to 1812 December 28.

During the war Harrison resumed duties in the military. He would rejoin government in 1816, serving for about 2 1/2 years as a US Congressman from Ohio, 1816 October 8 to 1819 March 3. He then became a Ohio State Senator for 2 years from 1819 to 1821.

Harrison later became a US Senator for Ohio for 3 years 2 1/2 months from 1825 March 4 to 1828 May 20, when he resigned to become the Minister to Gran Colombia, a post which he would hold for 1 year 4 months, 1828 May 24 to 1829 September 26.

After a break, Harrison would run for president in 1836, coming in second to Van Buren. In 1840 he won the presidential election, and took office on 1841 March 4. William Henry Harrison died after one month in office, on April 4.

In total, Harrison served in public office for about 22 years, plus having served in the military for many years.
