There is not law about what age someone has to be to be left alone. They are more concerned with her ability to take care of herself and has the means to do so. 16 is certainly old enough. Edit -> There are two states that have set a minimum age of 13 (Maryland and Illinois). Do note that if there are problems at the home and police are informed there could be issues regarding endangerment. If there is a good trust factor, there shouldn't be a problem.
