You could be pregnant. Home pregnancy tests usually can't detect the HCG hormone until after a missed period (so 15dpo), but some women don't produce enough HCG even after that!! So it is likely you took the pregnancy test too early. At 8 DPO, it is possible that implanation didn't even occur yet (implanation can take up to 10-14 days), so the pregnancy test would not have been able to detect pregnancy.
