Yes, you could be pregnant. Although the failure rate of IUDs is less than 1 in 100, it does happen. However, some IUDs, such as the Mirena coil, release hormones that generally reduce or eliminate periods. If you have one of these hormonal IUDs, it could be causing your light and missing periods. If you think you might be pregnant, take a test immediately. Over-the-counter pregnancy tests are readily accessible; however, a blood test administered by a physician would produce more reliable results.

∙ 16y agoWell the IUD is around 99% effective but it is also possible for it to be expelled or moved which can cause it to be less effective. I suggest that you take a pregnancy test ASAP because an IUD can cause an ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage or premature birth.

∙ 15y agoI think some IUD's promise shorter lighter periods to eventually not having periods at all.Call your doctor or research your specific IUD. I doubt you are pregnant though.
