Cause is the passlocks contact behind the lock, The female end in the housing section are corroded and a simple solution would be to spray a very small amount of electrical lubricant or wd40 and the the security system should detect the new ignition when inserted.
The 1966 Chevy Impala ignition switch can be removed by loosening the retaining ring at the top of the ignition switch. Remove the wiring harness. Reverse the process to install the new ignition switch.
Put the key in the ignition and turn it into the run position, but don't start the car. Leave the key in the ignition until the security light stops flashing. The car will start now.
how to program the new ign switch
If your security light is flashing, then you have had what is referred to as a "bad timing cycle" with your Passlok security system. Turn the key to the ON position, and wait until the security light stops flashing - This takes exactly 10 minutes. If the security light WAS flashing, then the 10-minute trick is only a temporary fix - You will need to have your ignition switch replaced.
YES.....
You may have activated security system if theft light flashing when key is turned, needs reset.
Yes to bypass,Press on the brake, turn car to as then on let the carburetor fill then, put the car in neutral, then start. If the security light is flashing, the car will not start for 10 minutes. Do not try to start while light is flashing.
If the security light is flashing you need to change the ignition switch it self. It is likely worn out.
Its in the key switch
The factory alarm causing the issue would be the security light flashing above the RPM guage. If the security light is flashing and the car will not start, follow the directions listed below. To reset the factory alarm, turn the ignition switch to the "on" position NOT the start position for 15min. You will see the security light go off after 15min.
on most cars the ignitions switch, is generally loctaed in side the steering column or under the dash above where your legs are when you are sitting in the drivers seat. Just had to have my 2000 Impala's Key cyilinder switch replaced. My mechanic explained to me that the electrical Ignition switch is directly behind the key cylinder.
The anti theft system has been triggered. I would call your local Chevy dealership and ask them how to reset it. its vary simple place your ignition key in the ignition turn the key to run wait 10 minutes for the security light to stop flashing it will be on steady do not turn the key off with the security light on steady turn the key to start the car will start and run let it run for 3 minutes if this failes the resistor attached to the ignition switch has failed . go to a auto recycler and get a replacement ignition switch with a key install the resitor on your switch and repeat intsructions above
