Yes it needs to have a 351. The new tranny has to be able to bolt up to it and the vast majority are not multi engine trannies. But there are a few that are so as long as it is a Ford then its worth checking out and seeing if it will match the bolt pattern. But to save alot of headache i would look for one with already attached to a 351.
