Your Jeep Cherokee when you go to use the cruise control it works fine but when you try to shut it off using the brake it surges foreward and does not want to shut off then it throws a cel any ideas?

It could be a sensor under the hood gone bad. There a senors that control the idling on a car.It could be the catalitic converter stopped which is part of your exhaust system. YOu may be able to call your local parts store to see the availability of testing machines that they can hook up and do diagnostic testing, Autozone /Advance do it for free in my home state.www.autozone.com has a trobling site. It is not an uncommon occurence for the display to go out. The display on my JGC premium Infinity sound system went out around 125,000 miles. The display on my Grand Am went out not long after I bought the car new. What causes this? It's electrical, and power surges are suspected in decreasing the life of electrical components dramatically. Always turn your radio off before getting out of your car and be sure it's off before starting it. This will reduce the events of power surges when starting your car with the radio on.

Probably your mass airflow sensor. It's a small electrical component located in the tube that goes from your air filter housing to the throttle body.
