i really dont know about the fuel pump but my car had a vacum leak and it idled high so it might be a vacum leak Also check the position of your sensors ( mass air, and idle are most common suspects. one of them might have or is going bad. check tps (throttle position sensor) oh and fuel pump goin out symptoms are usually more like the more u hit the gas it starts to turn off the car sluggish and slow to no acceleration or cut off
