You need to make sure that you have the correct size belt. Belts are made special for different vehicles, makes and for different components. If you are sure that you have the correct belt, make sure that you adjust it properly. Adjusting it too tight can cause the belt to break.
fan belt keeps snapping ,teeth stripped of
If your car has a Serpentine belt that's one piece and made specifically for that engine, chances are you may have to repair the AC unit. From the description "snapping belts" one would assume that the AC Compressor is siezed, where the pulley doesn't even turn freely.
It keeps drive belts under tension (pulled tight)
On the front of the engine. It keeps the belt tight.
It is the same as the timing belt. You have to take the front of the engine apart to the timing belts. I believe it is the belt closest to the block. When you replace the belt, make sure that the roller gear spins freely because it will tear the new belt apart if it seizes.
yes.....it is an interferance engine. The belt keeps moving parts in sync; when it breaks at speed, those parts can hit each other with great force.
There should be an engine belt diagram near the latch that keeps your hood closed.
On the 2.4L the pump is driven by the timing belt. On the 2.7L it is driven by the timing chain. ON either engine the entire front if the engine has to be taken apart to replace the waterpump.
You don't Replace the timing belt at the recommended interval. If the engine is apart for other service any measurable wear requires replacement
If it is a serpentine belt the idler pulley more than likely needs replacing. If it is a drive belt you are adjusting it too tightly.

It's best to do because you have to have the front and top of the engine apart so might as well do it while it's apart.
