All women's side effects vary after receiving the Depo Provera shot. It is normal to have disruptions in your normal cycle immediately after receiving it, and for some reason, throughout the entire duration of the shot. It is completely normal to have spotting, no period, a change in the flow of your period, etc after getting the shot. Ask your doctor or gynecologist if you are unsure about any side effects of Depo Provera.

∙ 16y agoeach person is different when going on the depo shot. Ive been on the shot for a few years now, and have since then switched to other methods but have always ended back with the depo shot. When i would switch back to the depo i would experience frequent bleeding, spotting, and i was misrable. To stop the bleeding and spotting my doctor would either prescribe me another form of BC like the pill, to take until the bleeding subsided, or tell me to take 500MG of Ibuprofin every 4 hrs until it stopped. This may not work with you but it worked great with me and i havnt had any problems since.

∙ 7y agoYou do not have periods on Depo.
Menstruation only occurs following ovulation, but hormonal Birth Control like Depo stops ovulation so stops menstruation - Depo does not allow withdrawal bleeds like other hormonal options do either. It is common to experience no bleeding at all on Depo or you can experience very consistent or irregular bleeding too. Once you stop Depo you may not menstruate for some time too.

I believe you can have a period twicw a month while on the shot. I believe the shot can upset your periods in many different ways. I have been off the shot for almost 10 yrs. now and still have a period every 2 weeks and my periods used to be like clockwork. I only took the shot for about 1 year. I don't trust the Depo Provera shot and would not do it.

Yes ... a lot of people will have their periods completely stop while on Depo. It is considered a normal side effect of the shot.

Everyone is different. It might depend on how your body was affected when you were on the shot. When I was on the shot, I bled more often than not. I was due for a shot at the end of December but didn't get it. It's now the beginning of May and I haven't had a period for the last four months.
