Many causes of nerve pain or damage or due to some type of injury to the spinal column, like a slipped disc. Sometimes a pinched nerve can cause excruciating pain too.
A pinched nerve is when the surrounding tissue causes too much pressure to the nerve. Some common causes for this are osteoarthritis, injury, bad posture, obesity, sports activities, or stress from repetitive jobs.
Some causes for foot pain are fractured or broken toes, nerve damage, calluses, or warts on the feet.
Nerve pain can be treated if it is diagnosed early with acupuncture, or hypnosis for example to help alleviate the pain, or changes by treating the conditions that are causing the pain and then there are medications which can be taken. A good website reference is http://www.webmd.com/brain/nerve-pain-and-nerve-damage-symptoms-and-causes?page=2.
it depends on what the nerve damage was from and how much your body has healed
I believe (although not an expert) that any damage to nerves could potentially affect pain sensitivity. But more common is nerve damage that causes "altered sensation" rather then pain insensitivity. It usually causes a person to FEEL pain or some type of itching/crawling sensation than remove the pain sensation, although it is obviously a possibility if the nerves are damaged badly enough ... as in with paralysis. The pain insensitivity disorders (HSAN - Hereditary Sensory Autonomic Neuropathies) are all genetically based, so these people were born with a genetic nerve problem - although HSAN type I does not present in infancy and only appears in the second or third decade of life. Hope that is helpful
Neuralgia is caused by irritation or nerve damage from systemic disease, inflammation, infection, and compression or physical irritation of a nerve. The location of the pain depends on the underlying condition.
Occipital nerve headaches are caused by the firing of the occipital nerve either as the result of a process that disturbs the nerve or as the result of a chronic pain condition that causes spontaneous firing of the nerve pathways resulting in pain.
Trigeminal neuralgia is the nerve disease that causes extreme facial pain.
Pinching of the S1 nerve causes weakness in the ankle and numbness and pain in the sole and side of the foot
Numbness or pain in the FOOT or in the calf of your leg
any falls or accidents can cause leg pain, you may have pulled a muscle or ligament in your leg, go get it checked at the doctor. Leg pain can be a sign of anything from nerve damage to arthritis. Be careful and get it checked, as I mentioned above.
Pain is caused when nerve endings are exposed - they signal to the brain that there is damage to the skin and tissue, and we feel that as pain.
