You should begin by removing the positive cable from your 1988 Chevy Corvette battery. Remove the cables from the front of the starter. Remove the three starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new starter.

The starter is stuck or apparently engaged, replace the starter to eliminate your problem.

Look under pass side by flywheel. it is probably on starter (if pos)
The starter solenoid is not disengaging once engine is started. Rebuild starter or replace with a new starter.
You have a bad bendix spring or solenoid,either way you will have to remove the starter and replace whole or just the engagement solenoid
