I have a 2001 "Tahoe" that was doing the same thing. If you had the A/C on and moved the temperature just a little towards HOT, it put out heat, wide open. You could not turn the HEAT off until you cut the vehicle off and let it sit for a while. Then the temperature motor would "reset" itself. I ended up replacing the temperature motor under the dash, the one on the bottom side. My vehicle did NOT have "dual temperature settings". Just one knob you turned from Blue to Red. This fixed the problem. The part# that was on my old temp. motor / actuator was 52474810.
