The most significant event was the Great Depression. Banks failed and unemployment skyrocketed. Hoover was a firm believer in "laissez-faire". It was the idea that government should have no involvement with the economy, and that it would eventually right itself. Because of the devastating effects of the Depression, most of the public disagreed with him. Everyone blamed Hoover for their misfortune. The next election, Roosevelt won handily, promising a "New Deal" for Americans. The Depression led to multiple government programs to help jump start the economy. The country went in debt to create the programs, such as Social Security, and the government has never stopped adding programs for the American people. It's important to note that The Depression ended because of World War II, not because of Roosevelt's "New Deal".

The best strategy for organizing an essay to describe events in a time sequence is to use a chronological order. Begin by introducing the topic and providing background information, then move on to the events in the order in which they occurred. Use transition words to indicate time progression and make sure to provide clear and concise explanations for each event. Finally, conclude the essay by summarizing the events and their significance.
