Washingtons first battle was agianst a small French and indian detachment about 40 miles from Fort Duquesne (western Pennsylvania). He had about 150 men. the French and indians ran away and got their full force. Washington built a fort in the worst of possible places at the bottom of a vally called Fort Necessity. There was a 10 hour siege and then Washington surrendered. The French commander let him and his men march away without their weapons.
