The American government had absolutely no dealings with the Powhatan tribes and never relocated them. Warfare with the English colonies in the !7th century saw the Powhatans practically destroyed; by the time the Americans gained independence the remaining Powhatans had already become mixed with other native groups, white people and African Americans.Around 8 different groups descended from the Powhatan tribes still live today in Virginia and New Jersey but the language, culture and lifestyle has been almost completely lost.
