The system of government in the US has roughly remained the same since its inception in 1776. It is the so-called presidential system, based on the Separation of Powers devised by Montesquieu in the 18th century: legislative and budgetary powers resting with Parliament, executive powers resting with the President and judicial powers resting with an independent Judiciary.
