Some people insist that the U.S. is a republic rather than a democracy to emphasize the system of governance established by the Constitution, which includes representative democracy and a framework of laws designed to protect individual rights and minority interests. They argue that a republic operates under a rule of law with elected representatives, contrasting it with direct democracy, where laws are determined by majority vote. This distinction is often used to highlight concerns about the potential for mob rule in pure democracies, stressing the importance of constitutional safeguards.
James Madison advocates for a republic rather than a pure democracy. In Federalist No. 10, he argues that a republic, with its system of elected representatives and checks and balances, is better suited to control factions and protect the rights of individuals. Madison believed that a direct democracy could lead to the tyranny of the majority, whereas a republic would help ensure a more stable and just government.
The political arrangement preferred by the Framers was that of a republic, rather than a pure democracy, for example. Thomas Jefferson was one of the framers of the US Constitution.
Giving every citizen a vote (democracy) would make for flawed results since they did not believe the average person was capable of making sound decisions about government. That's why America is a Republic (aka Representative Democracy) rather than a pure democracy. The idea was that only capable men would run to be electors and they would make better decisions than the masses.
They are not made to give the people the chance to decide a matter like democracy, but rather to express unity under the Fuhrer and his decisions.
Yemen is a republic government because it is structured as a political system in which the head of state is elected by the citizens, rather than inherited through monarchy. The country established the Republic of Yemen in 1990, unifying the Yemen Arab Republic in the north and the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen in the south. Despite ongoing political instability and conflict, Yemen maintains a republican framework that aims to represent the will of the people through elected officials and institutions. However, the effectiveness of this system has been challenged by civil war and external interventions.
Their territory was too large to govern by democracy
The US is not a democracy. We are a constitutional republic.
A republic is a representative democracy, where the people elect representatives to make laws for them. A republic makes decisions democratically by the majority vote of representatives. In a representative democracy you elect a few to represent you in the decision making, and make decisions for you, rather then you yourself vote on every decision.(The United States is a republic, or representational democracy, because the people vote for representatives to represent their views in congress. James Madison defined republic in terms of representative democracy as opposed to direct democracy.)A direct democracy, or pure democracy, is where the people rule directly, voting on every law themselves. It's a form of government ruled by majority of every individual. A direct democracy allows all citizens to vote on every decision.Direct democracy is where citizens vote directly by ballot to make decisions for the government. Direct democracy originated in Athens.

because the republicanism is better than pure democracy
the meaning of Abraham Lincoln's definition on democracy is: The government is from the people like us and is made of many people and is made for the sake of people............this is the meaning of Abraham Lincoln's definition............

basically, the Romans did not let everyone participate in the government i.e. voting and such. they operated like our congress/senate; the people elected people to represent them in the government the athenians let people vote on matters rather than have just representatives vote for them.
The political thinking of the time was that the Romans never wanted to be subject to the whims and orders of a one man rule. They established the republic to avoid this and to give the people a voice in how they were governed. This concept is reflected in the USA which has since creation been a republic rather than a democracy.
Actually, China is a republic. A republic is a state governed by the people or their elected representatives. Although China is a one-party Communist authoritarian state, which has what most republics consider to be a repressive government and does not tolerate dissent, it qualifies as a republic because it has a President ( currently Xi Jinping ) rather than a monarch or emperor.
The US is primarily a representative democracy with elements of a republic. In a representative democracy, citizens elect officials to make decisions on their behalf, which aligns with the US system of electing representatives at various levels of government. Furthermore, the US operates as a republic, where power is held by elected officials and laws are created through a system of representative government rather than direct citizen participation in decision-making.
