When Persephone is gone, her mother, Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, grieves and stops caring for the world. This is supposed to result in winter. When Demeter's daughter returns, She is happy again, creating spring.

∙ 14y agoDemeter's daughter Persophone was captured by Hades, and because she ate a pomegranete seed, she must return half the year. When she is in the Underworld, her mother mourns, and it is winter and autumn, when she returns, it is spring and summer because she is happy.
