Cattle are not pregnant continuously. Just because a cow has a long gestation period (9 months + 2 weeks) shouldn't directly refer to the fact that a cow is "continuously" pregnant. After a cow calves, she is not bred right away. She's allowed to rest for two to three months before she is ready to be bred again.

Just like in the wild, females get pregnant "continuously" as well. Many wild animals have a gestation period that is as long as or longer than a cow's, and even those that have short gestation periods get the urge to proliferate regularly as well--like mice and rats. And just like with how cows are raised, these same animals have to rest for a period before going through the whole reproductive process again. Some animals are seasonal breeders, others are not. Cows are not seasonal breeders, nor are pigs, which means they are liable to get bred any time of the year, regardless if the producer wants them bred at that particular time or not.
