Squeeze a radiator hose. If there is pressure, it will be hard to squeeze. However, some of them have a spring in them so they won't collapse, but you will be able to feel it if there is NO pressure. Use a rag to carefully and slowly open the radiator cap! To be safe, if its all hot, don't mess with it.

94 Taurus - radiator hose expands due to building pressure when car is running. Why?

Your coolant system is a pressurized one so some pressure is normal, if the hose is expanding it probably needs to be replaced. Check to be sure that you have a good radiator cap that has the correct psi rating for the vehicle. If the radiator cap is venting pressure into the overflow tank and it is a proper functioning cap then there may be a head gasket issue to deal with but it sounds like what you have is normal, but the radiator hose is getting old.

Is it normal for your car to make a light rhythmic thud at slow speeds and stop after refilling the coolant bottle?

It sounds to me like the radiator is boiling.Make sure the radiator is full by removing the cap WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD. and filling it completely. This should fix it. GoodluckJoe

How do you change the radiator on a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am?

I don't own a Pontiac Grand Am but perhaps through these steps that I will list down, you can get some idea about the process. Good luck! Here it is: The radiator cools and stores the engine coolant. It is usually mounted on the front of the engine compartment. These are the things that you should have: New Radiator Combination Wrench Set Screwdriver Flashlight Cooling System Pressure Tester Needle Nose Pliers Socket and Ratchet Set 3/8 in. Drive Ratchet 1. With the engine off and cold, open the hood and locate the vehicle's radiator. 2. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. 3. Remove the radiator cap. 4. Place a drain pan under the radiator. Remove the drain plug or remove the lower radiator hose to drain the cooling system. 5. Remove the upper radiator hose. 6. Remove the radiator fan shroud or remove the electric cooling fan assembly. 7. Remove the radiator. 8. Install the new or repaired radiator. Make sure it is aligned. 9. Install the lower radiator hose and clamp. 10. Install the radiator fan shroud or electric cooling fan assembly. 11. Install the upper radiator hose and clamp. 12. Fill the radiator and radiator reservoir with a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water. 13. Install the radiator pressure tester and check for additional leaks. 14. Reinstall the radiator cap and negative battery cable. Start the engine. 15. Monitor the engine temperature. 16. Road test the vehicle, maintaining supervision over the temperature gauge. 17. Verify repair by inspecting for leaks or overheating.

What do you check if your 1980 Chevy stalls when turning left or right?

The engine is idleing up its RPM to compensate for the added load of the powersteering pump kicking in when you turn. If it doesnt idle up, it will die, no mater which way you turn the wheels. Check the vacuum lines and powersteering lines, EGR lines, IAC lines, and intake hoses. Make sure nothing is cutting or pinching into them. Make sure you have no leaks from any of them if you do it could cause the problem. Can also be the power steering pressure switch or the Idle Speed Control Motor is defective.

What is wrong when you find oil in the coolant while temp gauge remains normal and oil is clean?

Are you sure it is motor oil? It may very well be tranny fluid, check to make sure it is full and clean. The tranny coolers are internal in the radiator in automatics. If there is coolant in the tranny fluid it will look like milk, make sure you do not drive at all, till fixed and flushed

What do you want to check if your car has been sitting?

The battery, to see if it has a charge. The gas, to see if it is still good enough to burn properly. The water in the radiator, to make sure the engine wont overheat. The oil, to make sure it is at the correct level and no water has corrupted it. The tire air pressure, to make sure that all are at correct pressure.

There is a hole in the plastic on the side of the radiator Can it be fixed?

Usually a radiator is made of metal. Plastic can not take the pressure. A hole can be fixed by welding. A radiator shop can tell you for sure.

How do you remove a radiator on a 2001 Monte Carlo?

first remove the fan bolts, next the fan, remove the radiator hoses. take off the motor mounts, and make sure the motor is on a jack when you do so it doesnt damage anything, take off the cooling lines, and make sure everything is dis connected, then you should be able to take it off, when replacing it make sure you put the spacers and bolts back on the fan, or it could hurt the radiator. hope this helps! changes my mom's for her and the bolts werent there to begin with, just 2. thats why i say make sure you keep up with them and put them back!

Why is your radiator fan smoking on your mustang?

The radiator fan may be smoking on your Mustang if there is a radiator leak. You will need to check the radiator to make sure there is enough water and fluid inside.

What would cause pressure buildup and overheating in a range rover 4.6 after replacing the thermostat radiator cap and a radiator hose?

clog in radiator. drain radiator by removing cap on bottom remove cap on top fill top with water see if drains out bottom. or possibly an air pocket trapped in cooling system. make sure to bleed the air from the system.

You replaced the thermostat and radiator cap and its still hot?

first, make certain the thermostat is not installed backwards, if still hot then remove a radiator hose and see if coolant is discharged with pressure behind it(this checks the water pump); it is also a good idea to flush the cooling system; make sure there is not debris in front of the radiator; beyond all this you may just have to have a professional diagnose it

When the engine is cold, check the level of the coolant in the reservoir. Make sure it's up to the mark on the side. Make sure you get the reservoir cap on tight.
