Hey Fred==Your car probably has auto headlights and has a module under the dash to control them. The module is bad. goodluckJoe How long do they stay on? They're supposed to stay on for about 3 to 5 minutes.
On quite a few DTR systems, the lights *will* shut off, but only between 30 sec to a couple minutes after the ignition's been turned off.
On some models of cars this is a safety feature. They usually turn off after 15-20 seconds.

I have the exact same thing with a 2002 Mercury Sable GS Not sure but I think it is some sort of vacuume leak somewhere
sorry, there isn't one..read up on the system ... everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and the library should have a professional shop manual available in the REFERENCE section...make copies of the right sections...good luck :)
It needs the code. Call, your dealer. That has nothing to do with it. Got to a ford or mercury dealer and they will tell you they no nothing about it. It is the fleet installed cell phone that is causing the problem. Turn the car on, turn the cell phone on, wait a minute, the turn cell phone off. Radio will the work. If you do not still have the cell phone handset, get and hook it up. then do as above says. I had the same problem, and solved the problem by turning cell phone on and the turning it off again.
Replace auto lamp module.
There is a module that controls this. I forget the name of it offhand, however I do know that it is several hundred dollars just for the part. Just not worth it...
