To replace the fuel filter in a Subaru Outback, first ensure the vehicle is off and the fuel system is depressurized by removing the fuel pump relay and starting the engine until it stalls. Then, locate the fuel filter, usually found along the fuel lines under the vehicle. Disconnect the fuel lines from the filter using appropriate tools, and remove the old filter. Install the new filter in the same orientation, reconnect the fuel lines, and reinsert the fuel pump relay before starting the vehicle to check for leaks.
